Waldo Pizza

The next restaurant I would like to write a bit about is Waldo Pizza.  This is a pizza place that my husband noticed while driving the moving truck on the way to move us to our apartment in Kansas City, MO.  His first impression was that it would be a great restaurant, and he was right!

Waldo Pizza is located at about 75th and Wornall in Kansas City, MO.  If it says anything about how much we like this place, even after moving back to the Kansas side of the KC metro area we still go by every once in awhile to enjoy their pizza.  They have several options for specialty pizzas, and they have a wide variety of toppings to choose from if you want to build your own pizza.  We personally love to get the Cheese Crusts as an appetizer, and pretty much any pizza with the honey wheat crust is a hit for us.

The atmosphere is also fun.  They have trivial pursuit question cards at each of the tables that my hubby and I love to use to pass the time away after we order.  The artwork is interesting, and if you go take a look at the ceiling you'll see a few other interesting touches.  :)

This is another place that we've taken family members and guests to for a meal option.  Any time we've gone it's been a hit!

Llywelyn's Pub

The first restaurant I'd like to share is Llywelyn's Pub.  My husband and I decided to try it out after a co-worker suggested it to me, and it's been a hit with us ever since.  Not only is the food great, but it has a very interesting atmosphere.  It is housed in an antique building and several nights a week they have bands play after 9pm.

Some of our favorite menu options include:
  • Llywelyn's Reuben
  • Llywelyn's Broil
  • Shepherd's Pie
  • Steak & Cheese
  • Pub Pretzels
  • Homemade Chips (pay a little extra for a side of pepper cheese to dip them in, totally worth it!)
We have taken several family members here and they have all enjoyed it.  My brother visited from Oklahoma and loved the Steak & Cheese so much that he asked me to get one and bring it to Oklahoma for him.  The staff was so great about it, they packed it up picnic style for us to make the 6hr drive to OKC.

The only warning that I'd give is that it can be pretty loud when the bands play, so having a conversation can be difficult.  However, they do have a private room called "The Snug" that can be used for a small group.

This remains one of our favorites, so I encourage you to at least try it.  Oh, and don't forget to ask about the cobbler of the day.  The cobbler with a scoop of ice cream is awesome!

The Beginning

I have to admit that I never thought I would actually start a blog.  However after moving to Kansas City a little over 4 years ago, I found that I often got asked by people that had lived in the area a lot longer than me where I would suggest going to eat.  I decided that it might be interesting to share some of the places we've tried for others to read...so here I am.

I lived in Oklahoma from birth until my husband and I got married.  After arriving in Kansas City we had to find new favorite places to go out to eat.  We both enjoy finding places that are not huge national chains, but we do eat at those from time to time as well.

So, with that I intend to share places we've found, and would also love to hear of any places I may have missed so far!
